The latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics show that in May 2023, China's steel production was 19.929 million tons, down 8.8 percent from a year earlier; the cumulative output from January to May was 96.937 million tons, down 0.9 percent from a year earlier.
In May, the output of medium-thick and wide steel strips in China was 17.878 million tons, up 5.6 percent from the same period last year, and the cumulative output from January to May was 83.427 million tons, up 8.4 percent from the same period last year.
In May, China's wire rod (wire rod) production was 11.63 million tons, down 13.3 percent year-on-year; from January to May, the cumulative output was 58.379 million tons, down 0.2 percent year-on-year.
